After examining the accused virtually, the court fixed January 3, 2026, as the next date of hearing. According to a senior lawyer, the court will consider the framing of charges on the next date. The accused will be asked whether they plead guilty or choose to face a full trial, either through physical presence or virtual production.

Background of the Case
Renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg had travelled to Singapore to attend the North East India Festival (NEIF), where he tragically died under mysterious circumstances while swimming in the sea on September 19. His death sparked widespread public outrage and led to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
Accused and Their Charges
The accused in the case include:
- Shyamkanu Mahanta, Chief Organiser of NEIF
- Siddhartha Sharma, Zubeen Garg’s secretary
- Shekharjyoti Goswami, musician
- Amritprava Mahanta, singer
These four were charged with murder by the SIT in the chargesheet filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate on December 12.
Zubeen Garg’s cousin, Sandipan Garg, a suspended Assam Police officer, has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Two personal security officers (PSOs) of the singer, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya, were charged with criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust, accused of misappropriating funds or property entrusted to them.
- Mahanta, Sharma, Sandipan Garg, and PSOs Bora and Baishya appeared virtually from Baksa Jail.
- Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta joined the hearing online from Haflong Jail.
Zubeen Garg’s sister, Palmee Borthakur, was present in court during the proceedings. Speaking to reporters afterward, she stated that the family has full faith in the judiciary and hopes justice will prevail.
