Court Proceedings and Legal Updates
Malhotra’s regular bail plea was rejected on June 9, as the police argued that the investigation was still ongoing. Following three months of inquiry, the police filed a chargesheet on August 14, marking a crucial step in the case.
During the next hearing, Malhotra is expected to be physically present in court and will receive a copy of the chargesheet, her lawyer, Kumar Mukesh, confirmed.
Police Investigation and Espionage Allegations
While the Hisar Police have clarified that Malhotra had no access to sensitive military or defence-related information, they alleged that she had been in contact with certain individuals who were Pakistani intelligence operatives.
Specifically, police sources noted that Malhotra was reportedly in touch with Ehsan-ur-Rahim, also known as Danish, a staffer at the Pakistani High Commission, since November 2023. The Indian government expelled Danish on May 13 for allegedly engaging in espionage-related activities.
Authorities further claimed that Pakistani intelligence operatives had been attempting to develop Malhotra as an “asset”, although no direct breach of national security has yet been established.
