A 52-year-old man died by suicide in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal after his wife filed a dowry harassment case against him after 30 years of marriage. When the man was in hospital, his wife approached the police and filed another complaint against him, claiming that he attempted suicide to pressure her into withdrawing the case, a police officer said.

Madhya Pradesh: A 52-year-old man named Rajeev Giri from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, took his own life after his wife, Janki, filed a dowry case against him on January 26. The couple had been married for nearly 30 years.
Troubled and deeply stressed by the case, Rajeev reportedly suffered from severe anxiety and distress. Unable to cope with the situation, he consumed poison on February 1, which led to his unfortunate and tragic death.

Rajeev and Janki had two children—a daughter who is already married and a 25-year-old son. While Rajeev was battling for his life in the hospital, his wife, Janki, filed another complaint with the police. She alleged that Rajeev had taken poison as a way to emotionally pressure her into taking back the dowry harassment case.
“He consumed poison to pressurize me into withdrawing the case,”
-she stated in her complaint, as confirmed by Senior Police Officer Ratan Singh Parihar.
Understanding the seriousness of the situation,
“A constable was immediately sent to the hospital to record Rajeev’s statement,”
-said Senior Police Officer Ratan Singh Parihar.
However, by the time the police official reached the hospital, doctors informed him that Rajeev was in critical condition and unable to provide any statement.
“The hospital staff told us that he was not in a state to talk,”
-the officer reported.
Despite doctors’ efforts to stabilize him, Rajeev’s condition deteriorated rapidly.
“His health worsened within half an hour, and he passed away,”
-said the officer.
His tragic death has left his family in shock.
