NEW DELHI: Today (17th July): The Enforcement of Directorate (ED) detained Manjula, the wife of former Karnataka Minister B Nagendra, bringing her to the ED’s regional office in Bengaluru. Previously, a Bengaluru Court granted judicial custody to B Nagendra until July 18 in connection with the alleged Valmiki Corporation Scam.

Nagendra was arrested by the ED in the alleged multi-crore scam case and was subsequently produced before the Court in Bengaluru. The ED’s actions followed raids at multiple locations linked to Nagendra and MLA Basanagouda Daddal, concerning alleged embezzlement of funds in the Valmiki Development Corporation.

The state government has faced protests from the BJP, which alleges a major scam in the corporation. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar refuted these allegations, stating,

“There is no scam. All scams have been created by the BJP during their tenure. BJP is the father of scams. Now we are trying to clean up everything and they are not able to digest it as their names will come out.”

The alleged corruption case in the Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation came to light following the suicide of an official, Chandrasekaran, who left a note accusing officials of multi-crore corruption in the corporation. Chandrasekaran, a superintendent with the MVDC, died on May 26, leaving a sixpage note naming three officials and detailing corruption allegations, demanding action.

On June 6, Nagendra announced his voluntary resignation amid ongoing investigations, denying all allegations against him and expressing confidence that he would be exonerated.
