[UPSC Aspirant’s Death Tragedy] Delhi Court Grants Bail to Passer-By SUV Car Driver

Today, On 1st August, In the case of a UPSC aspirant’s death, a Delhi court has granted bail to the driver of the passing car. Manuj Kathuria, the driver of the SUV involved, was initially denied bail by a Magistrate court on Wednesday. He subsequently approached the Sessions Court, which granted him bail today.

New Delhi: Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court, on Thursday granted bail to the driver of an SUV involved in the tragic deaths of three UPSC aspirants in Old Rajendra Nagar on July 27.

The driver, 50-year-old businessman Manuj Kathuria, driving his SUV through a rain-flooded street in central Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar. His actions allegedly caused water to surge and breach the gates of the three-storey Rau’s IAS Study Circle building, flooding its basement.

Kathuria arrested after a widely shared video on social media showed his SUV speeding past the coaching institute, which led to the building’s gate being damaged.

Shima Kathuria, his wife, claimed that her husband was on his way to drop two guests at the metro station and alleged that the Delhi Police unfairly blaming him.

Previously, on Wednesday, the Tis Hazari Court rejected the bail applications of Manuj Kathuria and four co-owners of the basement. Judicial Magistrate Vinod Kumar stated in his order that the allegations against Kathuria were “serious in nature.”

The judge also noted that Kathuria disregarded warnings from passers-by.

The order stated,

“A review of the CCTV footage shows that some passers-by attempted to warn him of the impending dangers, but he did not pay attention. The allegations against the accused are serious in nature,”

The order continued,

“Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, as well as the seriousness of the offenses, the request of the applicant/accused for bail appears untenable at this stage. Therefore, the present bail application is dismissed,”

The UPSC aspirants, including two women and one man, tragically died after being trapped in a basement library at Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajendra Nagar. The library flooded following a heavy downpour in the national capital on Saturday.

The incident resulted in the tragic deaths of two women and one man, all UPSC aspirants, who were trapped in the flooded basement library of Rau’s IAS Study Circle following heavy rainfall in the national capital.
