The complaint, filed by Gajendra Sharma, general secretary (organisation) of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Kisan Shakti), accuses Ranaut of making inflammatory statements during media interviews.

Uttar Pradesh: An MP-MLA court in UP summoned Lok Sabha MP and actor Kangana Ranaut in a case linked to her alleged ‘objectionable remarks’ about the 2020-21 farmers’ protests.

The court has scheduled her appearance for October 25, as stated by advocate Sanjay Sharma.

The complaint, filed by Gajendra Sharma, general secretary (organisation) of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Kisan Shakti), accuses Ranaut of making inflammatory statements during media interviews.

Her remarks, made during the protests against three controversial farm laws (later withdrawn by the government), included claims of violence, rapes, and murders at the protest sites.

Lawyer Sanjay Sharma, representing the plaintiff, confirmed that the case was registered in court on September 19.

He said, “The court has issued a notice to Kangana Ranaut, summoning her for October 25 regarding her comments about the farmers’ protest.”

Gajendra Sharma further explained that Ranaut had previously criticized the farmers’ movement, even before being elected to the Lok Sabha.

“She referred to farmers as Khalistani and Pakistani during the Ghazipur border protests. Now, as an MP, she has escalated her remarks, calling farmers rapists and murderers,” he said.

“We condemn her statements and will pursue this case through all legal avenues. If necessary, we will approach higher courts. We have also appealed to the President and the Prime Minister to remove her from Parliament,”

Gajendra Sharma added.

The case is being heard by Second Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division) Arjun Singh, with a hearing set for October 25, where Ranaut is expected to respond to the allegations.

The BJP previously distanced itself from Kangana Ranaut’s remarks, clarifying that she was not authorised to speak on policy matters on behalf of the party.

This statement followed a video reposted by Kangana on the social media platform X, where she claimed that “bodies were seen hanging and rapes were taking place” during the farmers’ protests. She further accused “foreign powers” and “vested interests” of extending the protests even after the farm laws were repealed.

In her statement, Kangana said,

“What happened in Bangladesh could have easily happened here as well. There is a conspiracy by foreign powers, and these filmy people profit from it. They don’t care if the country suffers.”

Her remarks sparked widespread criticism, with Congress and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, condemning the BJP for “disrespecting” farmers.
