Kumar, accused of physical assault, sought bail but was rejected by the court. The incident garnered significant attention due to the political affiliations of the individuals involved.
New Delhi: A magistrate’s court, On Monday, in Delhi denied the bail request of Bibhav Kumar, an aide to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Kumar facing charges related to assaulting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal.
According to the allegations, the incident occurred on May 13 at the Chief Minister’s official residence in New Delhi. Maliwal claims that when she was waiting to meet Kejriwal, Kumar verbally accosted her, using abusive language and threats. She also alleges that Kumar physically assaulted her, dragging her and slamming her head on a table.
Kumar subsequently sent to four days of judicial custody on May 24. The magistrate’s court has now dismissed his bail application.
According to the Delhi Police’s remand report, they have described this as a “serious case” where the “brutal assault” could have potentially been “fatal”. The police also alleged that the accused, Kumar, was not cooperating with the investigation.

“This case is of utmost seriousness, involving a Member of Parliament, a prominent public figure, who endured a brutal assault that could have resulted in fatality. Despite detailed inquiries, the accused has exhibited non-cooperation during the investigation, offering evasive responses,”
Controversy enveloped Kumar after accusations of misconduct surfaced regarding his interactions with AAP MP Swati Maliwal at Kejriwal’s residence on May 13. Matters escalated into a legal affair when the Delhi Police apprehended him on May 19, following a formal complaint filed by Maliwal. This development led to the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with delving into the incident.
Moreover, amid the legal proceedings, Bibhav Kumar reciprocated with a counter-complaint against Maliwal, alleging her unauthorized and forceful entry into Kejriwal’s residence on the same day of the incident.
