CHANDIGARH: Recently, A video capturing an altercation between an SUV driver and traffic police in Chandigarh has gone viral, highlighting an incident where the driver claimed to be a ‘judicial officer’. The incident occurred at a roundabout where the driver was stopped by the police for traffic violations.
The video shows the moment when the police signaled the SUV to stop. Instead of complying immediately, the driver moved the vehicle forward and parked it improperly. The police then approached the driver to inquire about a cloth hanging in front of the number plate, which was obscuring the vehicle’s number. This action led to a heated argument where the driver insisted he was a ‘judicial officer’. During the confrontation, the driver handed his phone to the police, making them speak with a higher-ranking officer.
In the video, the driver can be heard repeatedly asserting-
“I am a judicial officer,”
as he argued with the traffic police. He attempted to use his claimed status to influence the situation and evade the consequences of his actions. Despite his claims, the traffic police stood firm in their duties and continued to question him about the obscured number plate and other violations.
The situation escalated when the police asked the driver to present his driving license. Instead of complying, the SUV driver abruptly sped away from the scene, further violating traffic regulations. This reckless behavior prompted the police to take immediate action.
The Chandigarh police have since identified the SUV driver as Prakash Singh. He has been booked under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These include Section 170 (personating a public servant), Section 186 (obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public duties), and Section 419 (cheating by personation). The case has been registered at Sector 49 police station.
In addition to the charges under the IPC, Prakash Singh has also been issued a challan for several traffic violations. These include running a red light signal and tampering with the number plate. The police have stated that the vehicle will be seized as part of the legal proceedings against him.
A police spokesperson commented on the incident, saying-
“The driver asserted he was a judicial officer to evade repercussions for his traffic violations. However, this behavior is unacceptable and will be addressed according to the law.”
The spokesperson further added-
“The vehicle will be seized, and the accused will face the full legal consequences for his actions.”
The viral video has sparked a public outcry, with many condemning the driver’s actions and applauding the police for their steadfast handling of the situation. The incident serves as a reminder that no one is above the law, and attempting to use false claims of authority to evade responsibility will not be tolerated.
This case highlights the ongoing issues of traffic violations and the misuse of authority. The police have urged the public to follow traffic rules and respect the law, emphasizing that strict action will be taken against those who attempt to flout regulations or impersonate public officials.
As the investigation continues, the police are gathering more evidence and statements from witnesses present at the scene. The legal proceedings against Prakash Singh will proceed, and further updates on the case will be provided as they become available.
The video remains a trending topic on social media, with many users sharing their thoughts and opinions on the matter. The incident has also prompted discussions on the importance of respecting traffic laws and the role of law enforcement in maintaining order on the roads.
