A potentially dangerous situation was averted at the Lucknow district court Yesterday (May 31st) when lawyers intervened to detain an individual armed with a pistol. The accused, identified as Chandrapal Singh, was arrested after being caught carrying the weapon into the court premises.

The incident occurred on Friday when Chandrapal Singh, who has a criminal record, was apprehended while armed.
Chandrapal Singh, implicated in ten criminal cases, including a sexual harassment charge involving the wife of an IPS officer, was scheduled for a court hearing on the day of the incident. Singh arrived at the court around 10:15 AM in an Audi, entering through Gate number 6, typically reserved for judge’s vehicles.
Additional DCP Vishwajeet Srivastava provided details on Singh’s arrest. Singh attempted to impersonate a railway magistrate to bypass security checks.
“Security personnel initially saluted him and allowed him entry after he identified himself as a railway magistrate. However, when he took a pistol out of his car and began approaching the court building, alert lawyers quickly surrounded and subdued him,”
-Srivastava explained.
The swift response of the lawyers present was crucial in preventing any further escalation. Their intervention ensured the situation remained under control until the police arrived. Singh was then arrested, and his pistol license was revoked.
ADCP Srivastava confirmed Singh’s arrest and subsequent actions.
“We arrested Chandrapal and sent him to jail, his pistol license will be cancelled.”

This incident highlights the importance of vigilance and prompt action in ensuring safety within court premises. The alertness and bravery of the lawyers involved were instrumental in neutralizing a potentially dangerous threat.
