HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) has announced the initiation of a Special Lok Adalat. This innovative program aims to resolve pending cases through a compromise settlement, marking the first time such an initiative is being taken up for cases awaiting adjudication at the apex court.

TSLSA member secretary Ch. Panchakshari, addressing the media on Wednesday, highlighted that the program is being conducted under the explicit directions of the Supreme Court.

He stated-

“The program was organized in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directives.”

This initiative is a significant step towards expediting justice and reducing the burden on the judiciary by resolving disputes amicably.

The Supreme Court has pinpointed 295 cases from Telangana that are suitable for settlement through the Special Lok Adalat. These cases encompass a variety of issues, including civil disputes, criminal matters, and maintenance claims. Panchakshari elaborated-

“These disputes encompass civil, criminal, and maintenance matters, among others.”

The process involves issuing notices to the parties involved in these cases to facilitate their participation in the settlement process.

Notices are actively being issued to the parties involved in the 295 identified cases. The TSLSA is making concerted efforts to reach out to them.

Panchakshari noted-

“Notices have been sent to parties in the 295 cases, and efforts are underway to communicate with them. We have already engaged with the parties involved in three cases.”

This proactive approach aims to engage the litigants and encourage them to consider settlement as a viable option.

Litigants interested in availing themselves of the Special Lok Adalat can contact the TSLSA directly. They can reach out via the landline number 040 23446723 between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. for further assistance and information regarding the process.

Role of District Legal Services Authorities

The TSLSA has streamlined the process for litigants who wish to participate in the Special Lok Adalat. TSLSA Administrative Officer Kalarchana explained that litigants can approach the staff of their respective district Legal Services Authorities (LSAs).

She said-

“If litigants wish to participate in the Special Lok Adalat, they may contact the relevant district LSA staff.”

Litigants are required to explain their cases to the LSA personnel, fill out the necessary details in the format prescribed by the Supreme Court, sign the documents, and incorporate the details of the compromise reached. Kalarchana emphasized that these documents are crucial as they form part of the case record.

She added-

“These documents are included in the case record.”

underscoring the importance of proper documentation.

One of the significant advantages of this initiative is that litigants do not need to be physically present at the Supreme Court to resolve their matters.

Panchakshari pointed out-

“The parties do not have to personally appear at the Supreme Court to resolve their issues.”

This provision ensures that the process is convenient and accessible, reducing the logistical burden on the litigants.
