AAP leader Satyendar Jain filed a defamation case against BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, alleging defamatory remarks made against him. The legal action centers on claims that Jain’s reputation was deliberately tarnished through baseless accusations. This marks another chapter in the political rivalry between the AAP and BJP. The case underscores the growing use of defamation lawsuits in political disputes.

New Delhi: Former Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Satyendar Jain filed a defamation complaint against BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, alleging that her statements during a television interview on October 5, 2023, were defamatory and tarnished his reputation.

The Rouse Avenue Court will consider the complaint today. Jain claimed Swaraj falsely accused him of having Rs.3 crore, 1.8 kilograms of gold, and 133 gold coins recovered from his residence, which he asserts are baseless allegations made for political gain.

He also alleged that Swaraj called him “corrupt and fraud” in furtherance of a smear campaign.

Jain contends that these remarks have caused “severe damage” to his personal and professional reputation, affecting his role as a public representative and his standing in society.

He stated,

“The accused has played havoc with my reputation, and the smear campaign has caused a cascading effect on me as a husband, father, brother, and friend, apart from scarring my unblemished political reputation.”

The former minister emphasized that,

“The allegations have left an immeasurable impact on his character, both as a leader and in his personal capacity.”

Satyendar Jain is an Indian politician associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He has been the representative for the Shakur Basti constituency in the Delhi Legislative Assembly since February 2015. Throughout his tenure in the Delhi government, Jain has held several ministerial roles, including those in Health, Industries, Home, Power, Water, Urban Development, and Irrigation & Flood Control.

Bansuri Swaraj is an Indian politician and lawyer, currently serving as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament for the New Delhi constituency. She is the daughter of the late Sushma Swaraj, a former Union Minister and prominent BJP figure.

As a member of Parliament, Bansuri Swaraj has actively addressed various issues, criticizing the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi for failing to implement the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. She argued that this failure has resulted in dissatisfaction among residents of ‘sewa basti’ areas.

In December 2024, AAP leader Satyendar Jain filed a defamation lawsuit against Bansuri Swaraj, claiming that her comments during a television interview harmed his reputation. The Rouse Avenue Court ischeduled to review the complaint.
