Sambhal Mosque Survey | ‘Report Almost Complete, Will Be Filed in January’: Court Commissioner

Today, On 24th December, The survey report on the mosque is almost ready and will likely be submitted in January, said the Sambhal court commissioner. The report is part of the ongoing case. Officials are carefully checking all details to make sure everything is included. The final report is expected to help decide the next steps in the case.

Sambhal: The survey report for the Shahi Jama Masjid almost ready and will likely be submitted to the court in January 2025, as stated by the court-appointed commissioner.

Advocate Ramesh Singh Raghav, designated as the court commissioner, announced on December 23 that the report would likely be filed on either January 2 or January 3.

Raghav informed the media,

“The survey report for the Shahi Jama Masjid is in its final stages. We are currently addressing some technical issues today, as it is the last working day for the court before it closes. The report will be submitted by January 2 or 3. Furthermore, the Supreme Court has issued a stay order to the trial court, preventing any actions until January 6, so we will ensure the report is filed before that date,”

On November 19, the court ordered an ex-parte survey of the mosque following a request from the Hindu petitioners, who claim that the mosque was constructed by Mughal emperor Babur in 1526 after demolishing a temple.

During a second survey on November 24, local protests escalated into clashes with security forces, resulting in significant violence, four fatalities, and numerous injuries.

The Supreme Court intervened on November 29, instructing the Sambhal trial court to pause proceedings regarding the Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid and its survey, while also directing the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure peace and order in the affected area.

The Sambhal Mosque dispute is about the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, India. In November 2024, a group of Hindus filed a case in the Sambhal civil court.

They claimed that the mosque was built in 1527-28 AD during the Mughal era after demolishing an old temple dedicated to Shri Hari Har.

Tensions in Sambhal raised after a local court ordered a survey of the mosque on November 19. This led to clashes with the police, resulting in four deaths. The survey ordered after a petition claimed that the mosque was built on the site of an old Harihar temple.
