Sambhal Court Issues Notice to Rahul Gandhi Over Controversial Statement, Hearing on April 4

Uttar Pradesh: Today, 20th March, A local court in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, has issued a notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with a complaint filed against one of his statements. The court has directed him to either appear in person or submit a response by April 4, 2025.

Additional District Judge (ADJ) II, Nirbhay Narayan Singh, issued the notice after a petition was filed by Simran Gupta, who is the national president of the Hindu Shakti Dal. Gupta alleged that a statement made by Rahul Gandhi during an event hurt people’s sentiments.

What is the Controversial Statement?

The statement in question was made by Rahul Gandhi on January 15, 2025, during the inauguration of the Delhi Congress office.

He reportedly said:

“Our fight is not against BJP or RSS, but against Indian state.”

Simran Gupta initially filed complaints with the Sambhal district magistrate and the superintendent of police. However, after receiving no response from the authorities, he approached the court on January 23, 2025.

Advocate Sachin Goyal, representing the petitioner, confirmed that the court has accepted the complaint and issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi. The court has given him the option to either appear in person or file a written response before the next hearing on April 4, 2025.
