Saif Ali Khan Stabbing: Drama in Mumbai Court as Lawyers Clash to Represent Accused Bangladeshi Shariful

Mumbai: A courtroom in Bandra witnessed an unusual scene on Sunday during the hearing of Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, the alleged attacker of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. Two lawyers reportedly jostled to represent the Bangladeshi accused in this high-profile case, creating a brief drama before the magistrate intervened.

Shehzad was arrested early Sunday morning in Thane city after two previous suspects were misidentified by the police. He is accused of sneaking into Saif Ali Khan’s apartment in Bandra’s upscale ‘Satguru Sharan’ building in the early hours of January 16 and stabbing the actor multiple times with a knife.

Amid tight security, Shehzad was produced before a metropolitan magistrate court in Bandra. When asked if he had any complaints against the police, Shehzad denied any grievances.

However, tensions rose when a lawyer approached the accused to obtain his signature on a vakalatnama (a legal document authorizing a lawyer to appear on behalf of an accused). Before he could proceed, another lawyer rushed to Shehzad’s box and secured his signature on a competing vakalatnama.

The confusion prompted the magistrate to intervene.

“You both can appear,”

the magistrate suggested, and both lawyers agreed to jointly represent the accused. Following the resolution, the court remanded Shehzad to police custody for five days.

The chilling incident occurred around 2:30 am on January 16 when an intruder broke into Saif Ali Khan’s 12th-floor apartment. The 54-year-old actor was stabbed multiple times and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Doctors have confirmed that Saif is recovering well and may be discharged soon.

Before Shehzad’s arrest, the Mumbai police had detained two individuals resembling him based on CCTV footage from the actor’s building. Upon identifying Shehzad as the prime suspect, the police revealed that he hails from Jhalokathi district in southern Bangladesh’s Barisal division.

Investigations revealed that Shehzad had been in Mumbai for five months, working various petty jobs, including stints at a housekeeping agency. The police are now probing his motives and whether he acted alone or had accomplices.

This shocking case has left Mumbai shaken, while Bollywood fans await further updates on Saif Ali Khan’s recovery and the legal proceedings against his alleged attacker.
