Saif Ali Khan Attack Case: Man Held In Deadly Assault Produced In Mumbai Court For Police Remand

Mumbai: A 30-year-old man arrested in connection with the Saif Ali Khan attack case on January 16 was presented in a Mumbai court on Sunday (19th Jan), where the police sought his remand. The suspect was brought to the Bandra holiday court at 1:30 pm for the remand hearing.

Section 167 of the Criminal Procedure Code allows that a person may be held in the custody of the police for a period of 15 days on the orders of a Magistrate. A Judicial Magistrate may remand a person to any form of custody extending up to 15 days and an executive magistrate may order for a period of custody extending up to 7 days.


Earlier, police identified the assailant as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national who had entered India illegally and adopted the name Bijoy Das. He was apprehended in the neighboring Thane city.

According to initial investigations, Shehzad had entered the Bollywood actor’s residence in the Satguru Sharan building in Bandra during the early hours of January 16 with the intent to commit theft.

Khan, 54, was stabbed multiple times during the incident and required a five-hour surgery at Lilavati Hospital nearby.
