Mumbai: Shariful Islam Shehzad, who has been in the news since January for allegedly attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan during a robbery attempt at his Bandra home, has now filed a bail plea in the Mumbai Sessions Court.

Shehzad, through his lawyer Ajay Gawali, has stated in his bail application that he is innocent and that the case against him is false. He argues that the FIR was not registered properly and insists that he has cooperated fully with the investigation. His plea also highlights that all evidence is already with the police, making it impossible for him to tamper with anything.

Currently, the case is being heard in the Bandra Magistrate Court. However, it will be shifted to the Sessions Court once the police submit the chargesheet. As of now, the Bandra Police have not yet filed the chargesheet.

Shehzad is accused of breaking into Saif Ali Khan’s home on January 16 with the intent to commit theft. During the incident, he allegedly attacked the actor, causing severe injuries to his thoracic spine and other parts of his body. Following the assault, Saif Ali Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he was treated for five days before being discharged on January 21.

In February, the Mumbai Police asserted that they had strong evidence against Shehzad. They also confirmed that he had entered India from Bangladesh and had stayed in different places in Kolkata before arriving in Mumbai.

Earlier, Additional Commissioner of Police Paramjit Singh Dahiya dismissed reports suggesting that Shehzad’s fingerprints did not match.

He stated, “Whenever an accusation is made, multiple pieces of evidence are collected against it. We have found much oral, physical, and technical evidence against the accused… We have caught the right person.”
