Chennai: On Thursday two individuals, previously embroiled in a narcotics case, were apprehended for carrying contraband into a special court designated for NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases. The accused, identified as D Dhandapani, 56, from Royapuram, and C Murugan, 19, from Manali, were caught in possession of ganja during a routine security check, highlighting a brazen attempt to smuggle drugs into a high-security zone.

Dhandapani and Murugan, who were arrested two years prior for smuggling ganja and subsequently released on bail, were attending a trial session at the special NDPS court located within the Madras High Court premises. Their suspicious behavior caught the attention of Sub-inspector Usha, a member of the high court’s security detail, leading to an immediate and discreet intervention.

Upon inspection, Dhandapani was found carrying 3 grams of ganja, while Murugan had 1 gram of the substance on his person. This discovery prompted the High Court police to register a new case against the duo, further complicating their legal troubles. Following the incident, a thorough search was conducted at their residences as part of the investigation.

The high court police filed a fresh case against the pair, conducted searches of their residences, and charged them with trafficking illegal drugs. Subsequently, they were released on bail at the police station.

The accused were booked for smuggling narcotic drugs and were subsequently released on station bail, pending further legal proceedings. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing the distribution and possession of illegal substances, even within the confines of judicial institutions.
