The court decision was made by the 45th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ganapathi Bhat, who remanded both accused – Gangadhar and T Obanna – to judicial custody.
According to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police, Obanna used Instagram accounts with the name ‘Robert Raghava 5D Boss TJ’ to send dangerous and disturbing threats to Ramya.
Meanwhile, Gangadhar used another fake Instagram account under the name ‘Darshan Thoogudeep’ to send similar threats.
These threats were made shortly after Ramya made a social media post regarding the Supreme Court’s comments in the high-profile case of actor Darshan, who is an accused in the Renukaswamy murder case in Chitradurga. Following her post, many users began attacking her online. In total, she received hateful messages and threats from 43 unknown accounts.
On July 28, Divya Spandana filed a complaint with the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, pointing out that 43 social media profiles had posted abusive and threatening messages against her. The Cyber Crime Police took the matter seriously, filed a case immediately, and began investigating the online abuse.
The case has been filed under several important sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), which include:
- Section 351(2): Threats made with intent to cause criminal fear
- Section 351(3): Criminal threats intending to cause death or serious harm
- Section 352: Attempt to disturb public peace by insulting someone
- Section 75(1)(iv): Sexual remarks or criticism
- Section 79: Insulting the modesty of a woman
The case also includes charges under the Information Technology Act:
- Section 66(c) and
- Section 67

During their interrogation, both the arrested men admitted to posting such vulgar and threatening messages online. Along with them, police have now identified 11 more people who were part of the same online harassment activity.
Altogether, more than 48 social media accounts have been marked for posting obscene, abusive, or threatening content. Authorities say they are continuing efforts to trace all individuals involved in this online attack.
When asked about any possible connection between the arrested persons and actor Darshan, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh stated that the police are still checking this angle.
“Both the CCB and Cyber Crime Police are actively pursuing the matter,”
-he confirmed.
After the arrests, Divya Spandana (Ramya) thanked the police and state officials for their quick and strong action.
She appreciated Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara and Commissioner Singh for their support and said:
“A strong message has been sent against misogynistic aggression. The law will not be lenient when it comes to protecting women’s dignity and ensuring safety in our city.”
