Raja Raghuvanshi murder case takes a new turn as his wife Sonam moves court seeking bail, claiming serious flaws in the charge sheet filed by investigators. The petition challenges the prosecution’s version and demands fair judicial scrutiny.
Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is accused of murdering her husband Raja during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has submitted a bail application.
The judicial magistrate of the Sohra sub-division scheduled a hearing for her petition on September 17.
Additional Public Prosecutor Tushar Chandra mentioned that the petition was filed on Friday, but the prosecution requested time to review the case records.
Sonam’s attorney has pointed out “flaws” in the charge sheet related to the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi.

Raja was killed by three hired assassins in a remote parking area near Weisawdong in Sohra while he was honeymooning in the region. It is alleged that his wife and her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, orchestrated the murder.
Last week, law enforcement presented a 790-page charge sheet against Sonam, Raj, and the three hitmenVishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi.
The murder of Raja Raghuvanshi has shocked the region, leading to calls for justice and a swift investigation. While the primary accused remains in custody, the release of the two co-accused has sparked concerns about its potential impact on the investigation’s pace and direction.
Law enforcement officials have not yet released a formal statement regarding the bail order or its implications for other aspects of the case. Meanwhile, the victim’s family continues to demand a prompt trial and accountability for all those involved.
The case is anticipated to progress with further legal proceedings in the coming weeks as more evidence is reviewed and testimonies are presented in court.
Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam got married on May 10 in Indore and headed to Shillong for their honeymoon shortly thereafter. On May 21, they rented a scooter to explore the beautiful Sohra region, but they were reported missing the following day.
Raja Raghuvanshi, who wed Sonam on May 11, was reported missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. His dismembered body was discovered in a deep gorge in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district on June 2.
Raja’s decomposed body, On June 2, was discovered in a gorge near Cherrapunji, showing multiple sharp injuries and two fatal wounds to the head. The case took a dramatic turn on June 9 when Sonam turned herself in at a roadside restaurant in Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, the case began when Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam went “missing” during their honeymoon in the scenic Sohra (Cherrapunji) area of Meghalaya on May 23.
After days of search operations, Raja’s body was discovered on June 2 at the bottom of a deep gorge. The body was in a highly decomposed state, making initial identification difficult.
Police later found that the murder was not accidental, but a well-planned conspiracy. Investigators revealed that Sonam, along with her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha, allegedly conspired to eliminate Raja.
The plan was executed with the help of three contract killers Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), and Raj Singh Kushwaha (21) who were later arrested from various locations in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
