Rahul Gandhi's Defamation Case Hearing Deferred Again as Lawyer Falls Sick | Next Date Set for Feb 11

Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh: The hearing in the defamation case against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was postponed on Thursday after his lawyer fell ill. The Special Judge Shubham Verma rescheduled the proceedings for February 11 following the submission of a medical certificate by Gandhi’s counsel, Kashi Prasad Shukla.

“The delay came after Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, submitted a medical certificate stating that he was unwell and unable to attend the court proceedings. In response, Judge Verma set the new date for the hearing,”

said Santosh Kumar Pandey, the lawyer representing the complainant Vijay Mishra.

The case was filed in 2018 by BJP leader Vijay Mishra from Hanumanganj, alleging that Rahul Gandhi made “derogatory” remarks during the Karnataka elections, which Mishra claims caused him personal harm.

In December 2023, a warrant was issued against Gandhi for failing to appear in court. However, he later surrendered in February 2024 and recorded his statement on July 26. The court granted him bail on two sureties of Rs 25,000 each.

The former Congress president has repeatedly maintained that the case is politically motivated and part of a conspiracy against him. With the next hearing scheduled for February 11, all eyes will be on the legal developments surrounding the high-profile case.
