Yesterday, On 9th October, A UP court recorded the statement of the complainant in the defamation case against Rahul Gandhi. The case pertains to remarks made by Gandhi, leading to the defamation suit. The court has scheduled the next hearing for October 17.
Sultanpur: An MP-MLA court recorded the statement of local BJP leader Vijay Mishra on Wednesday, who filed a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The case centers around alleged defamatory remarks made by Gandhi against Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah, following a complaint filed by Mishra in 2018.

Mishra’s lawyer, Santosh Kumar Pandey, stated,
“The complainant’s evidence was presented today, and his statement was recorded in the court. The next hearing has been scheduled for October 17.”
Gandhi’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, noted that he had cross-examined the complainant during the hearing.
On July 26, Rahul Gandhi recorded his statement in the same court, where he denied the charges and claimed that the case was politically driven. The court then instructed the complainant to present supporting evidence.
After multiple delays due to Mishra’s reported health issues, the case heard on Wednesday. Mishra, a resident of Hanumanganj in Kotwali Dehat, asserted that Gandhi’s remarks against Amit Shah during the Karnataka election campaign had caused him personal offense.

The Rahul Gandhi defamation case stems from remarks allegedly made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi against BJP senior leader and Home Minister Amit Shah during the Karnataka election campaign in 2018. Gandhi reportedly made statements that Vijay Mishra, a local BJP politician from Uttar Pradesh, found defamatory and offensive.
In December 2023, a warrant issued against Rahul Gandhi for failing to appear in court. In February 2024, the Congress leader surrendered before the court and was subsequently granted bail upon furnishing two bonds of Rs 25,000 each.
