His statement was recorded in court, and the entire proceedings lasted approximately 20 minutes.

The hearing has been scheduled for March 9.

According to his legal counsel, Gandhi arrived punctually at the court and followed the requirement to record his statement.

The court had previously given him a final chance to appear in person.

Gandhi asserted that the case was initiated against him out of “political malice.”

Traveling by road from Lucknow airport, Gandhi completed the necessary formalities before departing. The civil court area was heavily secured, with a dog squad meticulously searching the premises to ensure safety.

A substantial police presence, including an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) and four Circle Officers (COs), was on hand to maintain order.

Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai and Rajya Sabha member Pramod Tiwari were present outside the court as Gandhi recorded his statement. Party leaders characterized the appearance as part of a standard judicial process and expressed their confidence in the legal system.

Previously, Congress workers welcomed Rahul Gandhi with great enthusiasm at the Lucknow Airport, from where his convoy traveled to Sultanpur through Mohanlalganj and Raebareli under extensive security.

The defamation complaint was filed by Vijay Mishra, a BJP leader and former president of the District Cooperative Bank, concerning remarks Gandhi allegedly made against Amit Shah during a public meeting in Karnataka in 2018. Gandhi had earlier appeared before the court on July 26, 2024.

Following his absence on subsequent dates, the court instructed him on January 19 to appear in person on February 20. The case will now be heard again on March 9.
