Sultanpur (UP): A court in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has summoned Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to appear before it on July 26 in connection with a defamation case. The case, filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra, concerns alleged derogatory remarks made by Rahul Gandhi against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The complaint dates back to 2018 when Vijay Mishra accused Rahul Gandhi of making defamatory statements against Amit Shah during a press conference held amidst the Karnataka assembly elections. Mishra asserted that Gandhi’s comments were aimed at tarnishing the image of the Union Home Minister.
Rahul Gandhi’s legal representative, Kashi Prasad Shukla, requested the court to grant a “last chance” for Gandhi to appear, citing his commitments in Parliament as the reason for previous absences.
Earlier this year, on February 20, the MP-MLA court in Sultanpur granted Rahul Gandhi bail in the defamation case. The bail was set with a surety and personal bond of Rs 25,000 each. Despite pleading innocence and denying any defamatory intent, Gandhi’s legal battles continue as the court proceeds with the case.
