NEW DELHI: The Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday granted bail to former Delhi MLA Alka Lamba, who was facing allegations of violating a prohibitory order during a protest at Jantar Mantar. The protest was organized to demand the implementation of women’s reservation ahead of the 2024 General Election.
Background of the Case
The case against Alka Lamba arose from an FIR registered in 2024 at the Parliament Street Police Station. She was accused of violating a prohibitory order issued during the protest, which aimed to bring attention to women’s political representation.
Court Proceedings
Alka Lamba appeared before the Rouse Avenue Court following the issuance of a bailable warrant due to her prior non-appearance. Earlier, the court had issued summons to her after taking cognisance of the charge sheet filed by the prosecution.
She had sought exemption from appearing before the court on two separate occasions, following which the court issued a bailable warrant on September 24.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Vaibhav Chaurasia granted her bail and directed the prosecution to supply a copy of the charge sheet to her. The court has now scheduled arguments on the charge for October 15, 2025.
