Today, on 11th September, The Delhi Court has rejected a plea seeking an FIR against Sonia Gandhi regarding her name being included in the voters’ list before acquiring citizenship. The court dismissed the petition, closing the matter legally.
New Delhi: A Delhi court dismissed a criminal complaint that sought a first information report (FIR) against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. The complaint claimed that her name appeared in the electoral roll three years prior to her becoming an Indian citizen.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACMM) Vaibhav Chaurasia issued the ruling, stating,
“We have dismissed it.”
The petitioner, Vikas Tripathi, argued that Gandhi’s name was listed in the electoral roll for the New Delhi constituency in 1980, despite her becoming an Indian citizen only in April 1983.
Earlier, On 10th September, A Delhi court reserved its ruling on a request for a first information report (FIR) against Sonia Gandhi, who allegedly had her name listed in the electoral roll three years prior to becoming an Indian citizen.
The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Vaibhav Chaurasia of the Rouse Avenue Courts made this decision after hearing arguments from Senior Advocate Pavan Narang, representing the complainant, Vikas Tripathi.
Tripathi contended that Gandhi’s name appeared in the New Delhi constituency’s electoral roll in 1980, despite her officially obtaining Indian citizenship only in April 1983. He stated that her name was recorded in 1980, removed in 1982, and then reinstated in 1983.
Earlier, A criminal complaint has been submitted to a Delhi court, requesting the filing of a first information report (FIR) against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.
The allegation is that her name appeared on the electoral roll three years prior to her acquiring Indian citizenship.
The complaint, filed by Vikas Tripathi, claims that Gandhi’s name was added to the electoral roll for the New Delhi constituency in 1980, even though she officially became an Indian citizen in April 1983. The plea further alleges that her name was removed from the electoral roll in 1982 and then re-added in 1983.
Tripathi’s lawyer stated,
“Her application for Indian citizenship is also of April 1983. How her name got included in the electoral roll in the New Delhi constituency in 1980, which was then deleted in 82 and re-entered in 1983,”
The lawyer contended that the inclusion of her name in 1980 suggests that forged documents may have been submitted, indicating that a cognizable offense has occurred.
Consequently, he requested the court to authorize the registration of an FIR.
After the lawyer concluded his arguments, the court noted that it would revisit the matter next week. No formal notice has yet been issued to either Gandhi or the Delhi Police.
