The Special Court for People’s Representatives has finished the trial in one of the rape cases against ex-MP Prajwal Revanna and reserved its verdict for July 30, with Revanna in judicial custody.

The Special Court for People’s Representatives has concluded the trial for one of the four rape cases filed against former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, reserving its verdict for July 30.

This significant case originates from a complaint made by a domestic worker from Holenarasipura in Hassan district. Revanna is currently in judicial custody related to this matter, which was first investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) before being handed over to the CID.

Shobha led the investigation and submitted a comprehensive chargesheet that included statements from 26 witnesses.

Throughout the trial, the court heard from Revanna as well as all 26 witnesses. Both the prosecution and defense presented their arguments based on the chargesheet’s evidence.

The Special Public Prosecutor asserted that the evidence strongly implicated the accused, while Revanna’s legal team sought bail and attempted to refute the prosecution’s claims.

Nevertheless, bail has remained out of reach for Revanna, with his previous applications rejected by the local court, the Karnataka High Court, and the Supreme Court.

On July 9, Justice S R Krishnakumar of the High Court transferred one of Revanna’s bail requests back to the trial court, instructing it to issue a ruling within 10 days.

The other three rape cases against Revanna are still under judicial review.

Suspended JD(S) leader and former MP Prajwal Revanna is facing multiple rape and sexual assault cases, following the leak of over 2,900 objectionable videos involving several women. After fleeing the country in April 2024, he returned and is currently in custody.
