A Ludhiana court in Punjab has ordered Google to provide details about Ajeet Bharti’s YouTube channel. The case relates to objectionable content allegedly targeting former Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai, in an ongoing criminal investigation.

A court in Ludhiana, Punjab, has ordered Google to provide specific details regarding the YouTube channel of Ajeet Bharti in relation to a criminal case concerning objectionable content aimed at former Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai.

This directive was issued by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Dazy Bangarh on February 9, following an application from the Cyber Crime unit in Ludhiana.

The police had filed a First Information Report (FIR) on October 8, 2025.

The court acknowledged the investigation agency’s assertion that the social media posts were designed to incite violence, diminish respect for constitutional roles, and insult a member of the Scheduled Caste (SC) community.

The ACJM added,

“It is thus clear that criminal case has already been registered and the details sought in this application is for the purpose of the investigation, for collection of digital footprints and for further development of the case,”

Accordingly, the court instructed Google to furnish complete information about the YouTube channel ‘Ajeet Bharti’ and the individuals responsible for posting the content in question, including details like subscriber information, IP logs, and upload history.

Additionally, the court granted the police permission to request that Google delete the content in accordance with the law.

CJI Gavai, who has since retired, faced significant criticism both online and offline from right-wing groups and individuals for his comments related to a case involving the restoration of a seven-foot idol of Lord Vishnu that had been beheaded in Khajuraho.

An advocate, Rakesh Kishore, even attempted to throw a shoe at him during court proceedings.

Subsequent media reports indicated that Bharti and others were charged with making casteist and provocative remarks against CJI Gavai in videos uploaded prior to and following the shoe-throwing incident.

Last year, Bharti sought protection from possible coercive actions by the Punjab Police in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The High Court had stated that Bharti could provide details of his videos concerning CJI Gavai to the Mohali Police to determine if any FIR had been filed against him.
