PUNE: The Pune Police have initiated legal action against the father and grandfather of a teenager previously implicated in a car accident on May 19, for their alleged role in the suicide of a local businessman’s son. This case, brought to light by the grieving father, DS Kature, accuses them and three others of contributing to his son’s tragic demise earlier this year.
The incident centers around Shashikant Kature, DS Kature’s son, who reportedly took his own life after facing relentless pressure over unpaid debts. According to the details shared by DS Kature, his son experienced “constant harassment” from one of the accused individuals.
This individual had lent Shashikant money for a construction business which, due to financial difficulties, Shashikant was unable to repay. The relentless pressure and intimidation eventually led to his desperate act in January.
“Shashikant was under immense pressure due to his inability to fulfill his financial obligations.”
-stated DS Kature in the complaint lodged with the police.
The constant harassment from the accused pushed him over the edge, and he felt his only escape was through the drastic step of ending his life.
The accused, now facing charges of abetment to suicide, include not just distant individuals but shockingly, close relatives of another youngster embroiled in a separate legal matter — the Pune May 19 car accident. This connection between the two cases adds a complex layer to the ongoing legal proceedings, highlighting a pattern of troubling behavior associated with this family.
The police have acted on DS Kature’s complaint, formalizing charges that could lead to serious legal consequences for all involved. The case is currently under investigation, with the authorities gathering further evidence to establish the extent of culpability of each accused party.
The accident, which occurred on the night of May 19, involved a minor driving a high-end luxury car and resulted in the immediate deaths of two individuals who were on a motorcycle at the time. Following the incident, the minor was initially granted bail but was subsequently detained at an observation home till June 5, as ordered by the Juvenile Justice Board.
According to a senior official from the Pune Police, the complexity of the case deepened with a recent revelation. During the ongoing car accident investigation, the teen’s grandfather had approached Police recently where the role of the juvenile’s father, grandfather and three others surfaced in the abetment of suicide case. Following this, Pune police included the accused’s father, grandfather, and three others in the abetment of suicide FIR at the Chandannagar Police Station. They also added sections 420 and 34 of the IPC, and further investigation is ongoing.
The investigation has revealed disturbing allegations against the juvenile’s family members. The grandfather is currently in judicial custody, accused of abducting the family driver to coerce him into taking responsibility for the accident, thereby attempting to shield his grandson. Meanwhile, the father of the accused minor is in police custody for his alleged involvement in manipulating blood samples, a critical element of the investigation aimed at determining the circumstances of the crash.
