Bhojpuri Star Pawan Singh in Trouble: Varanasi Court Orders FIR in Rs 1.5 Crore Fraud & Threat Case Over Film Boss

VARANASI: A Varanasi court has directed the police to register a case of fraud against popular Bhojpuri actor-singer Pawan Singh and three others, following a complaint filed by a local businessman.

The order, passed on August 13, 2025, by the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate-II, comes after businessman Vishal Singh alleged that he was duped of crores of rupees in the name of investment in a Bhojpuri film project.

The Complaint and Allegations

According to Vishal Singh’s counsel, Ashish Singh, the complainant met Mumbai-based film director Prem Shankar Rai in 2017, who introduced him to several individuals connected to the 2018 Bhojpuri film Boss. Vishal Singh was persuaded to invest in the film with promises of high returns. To strengthen his confidence, a meeting with Pawan Singh, one of the lead actors in the project, was also arranged.

The businessman claimed that he initially deposited around Rs 32.60 lakh from his and his brother’s firm into multiple accounts. In July 2018, he was officially declared a producer of the film and assured 50% of the profits. Later, he further invested Rs 1.25 crore in the project, believing in the assurances given.

However, despite the film’s release, Vishal Singh alleges he never received his share of the profits. Matters escalated when, according to the complaint, Pawan Singh allegedly threatened to kill him when he demanded his dues.

Legal Proceedings

After failing to get any relief from the Cantonment police station and the police commissioner despite filing complaints, Vishal Singh moved the court. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate-II, after hearing the matter, directed the police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against Pawan Singh and three others under charges of fraud.
