Belagavi: Jailed gangster Jayesh Pujari allegedly shouted pro-Pakistan slogans at a court premises in Karnataka, where he brought on Wednesday for a hearing related to an ongoing case against him, according to police reports.
The Police personnel present at the scene quickly apprehended the individual and escorted him to the police station.
A senior police official stated,
“We don’t have a conclusive answer as to why he shouted those slogans. We are investigating,”
According to the police, Pujari transported from Central Prison, Hindalga, to attend a court hearing today related to a case filed against him in 2018.
On Wednesday, as he brought before the court, he allegedly shouted ‘Pakistan Zindabad‘ slogans within the court premises, according to a police spokesperson. Officers on site promptly restrained him and escorted him to the police station.
When asked if Pujari assaulted for raising pro-Pakistan slogans, the official responded,
“We are investigating and still need to determine what occurred. There is footage suggesting he was assaulted, but we are verifying its authenticity. He is fine and has no visible injuries.”
The official added,
“A case is being filed against Pujari for today’s incident under sections 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings by insulting religion or religious beliefs) and 505(2) (Statements promoting enmity, hatred, or ill-will between classes) of the Indian Penal Code at Belagavi city’s market police station. He will then be sent to judicial custody.”
Police also noted that Pujari had made threatening calls to the office of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari last year, demanding ransom.
