Special Magistrate KN Shivakumar issued the order following the conclusion of Revanna’s custody with the special investigation team (SIT).
Revanna’s SIT custody had been extended by four days on June 19. As this period ended, the SIT did not request a further extension of his custody. Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Ashok Naik informed that on June 25, Tuesday, Prajwal Revanna would be produced virtually before the court. It is anticipated that following arguments, he may be sent back to SIT custody concerning a fourth case filed against him alleging molestation.
The sexual abuse allegations against Prajwal Revanna gained public attention after over 2,900 videos depicting the sexual assault of several women were circulated on social media. On April 28, a first information report (FIR) was registered against Revanna and his father HD Revanna under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Holenaraseepur town police station in Hassan district.
The sections include:
- Section 354A (sexual harassment)
- Section 354D (stalking)
- Section 506 (criminal intimidation)
- Section 509 (insult to modesty of woman)
The FIR was lodged based on a complaint filed by one of the victims. An SIT led by senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer BK Singh was assigned to probe the case.
Following the emergence of these allegations and the ensuing public and political uproar, Prajwal Revanna fled to Germany shortly after the April 26 Lok Sabha polls in the state. He returned to India in the early hours of May 31 and was immediately arrested.
Prior to his return, Prajwal Revanna sought anticipatory bail from a Bengaluru court in connection with the three cases related to the sexual abuse allegations against him. The court’s decision to place him in judicial custody reflects the serious nature of the allegations and the ongoing investigation.
The case has sparked widespread outrage and highlighted the need for stringent actions against sexual abuse. The judicial system’s handling of this high-profile case will be closely monitored as it progresses.
