A Delhi court has set September 26 to continue inspecting files in the National Herald case involving Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. The ED accuses Congress leaders of conspiracy and money laundering over properties worth Rs 2,000 crore.
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Tuesday fixed September 26 as the next date to continue checking the files in the National Herald case.
Special Judge Vishal Gogne has asked the investigating officer (IO) to appear before the court with all the necessary case records.
The court noted that, as per its earlier order, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had already submitted a copy of the ECIR (Enforcement Case Information Report) and the complaint filed by Subramanian Swamy.
Earlier, the court had already gone through some of the files related to this matter. However, it has also kept pending its decision on whether to take cognisance of the ED’s chargesheet. The judge said this was because there was still a
“need to conduct further inspection of the case files.”
The ED’s case claims that top Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, along with late party veterans Motilal Vora and Oscar Fernandes, and leaders like Suman Dubey and Sam Pitroda, as well as a private company named Young Indian, were involved in a “conspiracy and money laundering” connected to the alleged illegal takeover of properties worth around Rs 2,000 crore belonging to Associated Journals Limited (AJL), the company which published the historic National Herald newspaper.
According to the agency, the Gandhi family controlled around 76% shares in Young Indian, which allegedly took control of AJL’s assets in return for a loan of just Rs 90 crore. The ED has alleged that this was done fraudulently to usurp properties that were originally meant for public interest.

In its chargesheet, the ED has officially named Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey, Sunil Bhandari, Young Indian, and Dotex Merchandise Pvt Ltd as accused in this case.
With the court yet to decide on taking cognisance of the chargesheet, the next hearing and file inspection on September 26 will be a key development in this long-running case.
