This decision came after an urgent meeting of the Executive Committee was held on 18th July 2025 at 3:00 PM to discuss the issue of FIRs being registered by police against lawyers.
The Association has expressed deep concern and strong anger over what they say is the unfair and biased attitude of the police.
According to the circular,
“There is a strong resentment amongst the member of the Bar against the biased approach of police where they are proactive in registering FIR against Lawyers but when it comes to take action against erring police officials they make every possible endeavor to shield them.”
The members of the Saket Bar Association feel that this behaviour shows discrimination, where police officers are quick to take legal action against lawyers but avoid any accountability when the police themselves are at fault.
In the circular, the Association clearly states:
“We strongly condemn the biased approach of police and register our strong protest against this action. It has been unanimously resolved to completely abstain from work on Saturday i.e. 19.07.2025.”
This means all members of the association are asked not to work or appear in court in any form — whether physically or online. The lawyers have also been told to cooperate with the strike and avoid court duties on this day.
The circular adds:
“The Members are requested to abstain from work and co-operate and not to appear before any court either physically or virtually, furthermore proxy counsels have been appointed to represents the interest of the concerned Lawyers before the courts, wherever necessary, to avoid any inconvenience or adverse consequences to litigants.”
This protest move has gained attention in legal circles and may cause temporary disruption in court proceedings at Saket Court.
However, the Association has taken steps to ensure that no litigant suffers. By appointing proxy counsel, the Association wants to balance the protest with responsibility toward ongoing cases.
- This bold step has been taken under the leadership of President Rajpal Kasana and Hony. Secretary Anil Kr. Basoya, who signed the circular on behalf of the Executive Committee.
- Other key members include Vice-President Narendra Sharma, Addl. Secretary Hitesh Baisla, Joint Secretary Nirdesh Bidhuri, Treasurer Pooja Arora, and several senior and executive members.
