The investigation followed the tragic rape and murder of a medic. The next hearing is scheduled for Friday, aimed at expediting the trial process.

Kolkata: A special court in Kolkata has directed the CBI to submit all documents related to the corruption case involving alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The order was issued on Thursday, with the next hearing scheduled for Friday.
The case involves former principal Sandip Ghosh, who was in charge when a medic was raped and murdered inside the hospital’s seminar room on August 9, 2023. The tragic incident sparked nationwide outrage.
During the hearing, the CBI informed the court that it has received the West Bengal government’s approval to prosecute Ghosh and another accused in the corruption case. The agency has been investigating the alleged financial misconduct at the state-run hospital following a high court order.
On January 28, the Calcutta High Court directed the special court to make all efforts to frame charges within a week from the next hearing date. It also asked the court to consider the list of witnesses and set a trial schedule to ensure the case reaches its logical conclusion as soon as possible.
The CBI filed a charge sheet on November 29, 2023, detailing alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital during Ghosh’s tenure as principal.
The court’s directive came in response to a petition by Dr. Akhtar Ali, a former deputy superintendent of the hospital, who sought an Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into multiple instances of financial misconduct at the institution.

On September 2, 2023, about three weeks after the medic’s body was discovered, the CBI arrested Sandip Ghosh and three others for their alleged involvement in financial corruption at the hospital.
With the court pushing for a speedy trial and framing of charges, the case is expected to progress rapidly in the coming weeks. The next hearing is set for Friday, when the CBI is required to produce all relevant documents before the special court.
