Karnataka MLA HD Revanna Remanded to Judicial Custody by Bengaluru Court Until May 14

BENGALURU: Today(on 8th May), A court in Bengaluru has ordered the remand of Karnataka Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) HD Revanna to judicial custody until May 14. This decision comes in connection with a high-profile kidnapping case that is linked to the sexual abuse allegations against his son, Lok Sabha member Prajwal Revanna. The court’s ruling marks the end of the three-day custody granted to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is currently examining the allegations made against the Janata Dal (Secular) leaders.

On Thursday, May 9, HD Revanna’s request for regular bail is set for consideration, allowing his legal representatives a chance to argue for his release from detention. The legislator was apprehended by the SIT following the rejection of his interim anticipatory bail plea by Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhatt.

HD Revanna has been named in a complaint alleging his involvement in the kidnapping of a person associated with his son, Prajwal Revanna. The individual, employed as domestic help at HD Revanna’s home, was purportedly taken against her will to prevent her from providing testimony regarding Prajwal Revanna.

Recently, allegations of sexual abuse against Prajwal Revanna surfaced following the circulation of over 2,900 videos portraying the assault of numerous women on social media platforms. The severity of the matter led to the establishment of a Special Investigation Team, headed by senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer BK Singh, tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation into the incident. As part of their probe, the SIT has issued a summons for Prajwal Revanna to present himself for questioning.

However, amidst the public outrage and mounting pressure, Prajwal Revanna is reported to have fled to Germany shortly after the conclusion of the April 26 polls in Karnataka. As of now, he has not presented himself before the SIT for questioning, leaving many unanswered questions and fueling speculation about his involvement in the alleged sexual assaults.

The court’s decision to remand HD Revanna to judicial custody highlights the seriousness of the allegations against him and his son. It signifies a crucial step in the legal process, ensuring that both individuals are subject to due process and that justice is served.

The alleged kidnapping and sexual abuse have raised grave concerns about the safety and security of women, emphasizing the urgent need for the authorities to address such crimes swiftly and effectively.

The upcoming days hold significant importance as the hearing for HD Revanna’s bail plea approaches, offering insights into the unfolding legal process and the potential trajectory of the case. Concurrently, the SIT persists in its investigative efforts, committed to unraveling the truth and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable before the law.

Following this incident, it is imperative for society to contemplate the imperative of creating a safer environment for women and the significance of holding individuals responsible for their behavior. The case serves as a poignant reminder that no one should be exempt from accountability under the law, irrespective of their status or power.
