Using CCTV footage, the police were able to arrest Hritik and his accomplice Vikrant. They were charged under IPC sections 364A and 302 at Kishanganj police station.”
The tragic incident occurred on February 5, 2023, when Harsh, the minor son of Congress leader Jitendra Chauhan, kidnapped from Pigdambar village in Indore district. The perpetrators, Hritik, who is Chauhan’s nephew, and his relative Vikrant, initially demanded a ransom of Rs 4 crore for the boy’s release.
However, driven by the fear of being apprehended, they strangled the young boy to death before any ransom could be paid.
During the hearing on Monday, special judge Devendra Prasad Mishra found both accused guilty and sentenced them to death. Additionally, the court acquitted two individuals involved in the case. Congress leader Jitendra Chauhan, the father of the victim, told.
He added,
“On February 5, 2023, my son Harsh was kidnapped and killed. One of the accused, Hrithik, is my nephew, and the other accused, Vikrant, is a relative of Hrithik. They had demanded a ransom of Rs 4 crore for my son’s release. Hrithik was familiar with my family, so Harsh trusted him and went with him that day. After the kidnapping, Hrithik pretended to search for my son with us while secretly informing Vikrant of our actions. Today, the court delivered its verdict, and we are grateful for the judgment,”
During the trial, the court meticulously examined the evidence, including CCTV footage that played a crucial role in the investigation. The footage helped the police trace and arrest the culprits, leading to their conviction.
