Manorama Khedkar has been remanded to police custody until July 20 for allegedly threatening individuals with a gun. Puja Khedkar’s father, Dilip Khedkar, a retired government official, is also under investigation for alleged disproportionate assets.

Pune, Maharashtra: Today (18th July): Manorama Khedkar, mother of IAS probationer Puja Khedkar, has been charged with attempted murder following a viral video showing her brandishing a gun and arguing over a land dispute in Dhadwali village, Pune’s Mulshi tehsil.

After the video went viral, police launched a search operation and arrested Manorama on the morning of Thursday, July 18, from a lodge in Mahad, Raigad district, where she was hiding.

Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, Pankaj Deshmukh, stated that Manorama Khedkar was apprehended and brought to Paud, where she was formally arrested. The incident came to light amid scrutiny of Puja Khedkar for demanding perks, such as a separate office and official car, not typically available to probationary officers. Further investigations revealed issues regarding her UPSC candidacy, claims of disability, and her OBC certificate used to enter civil services.

Manorama Khedkar has been remanded to police custody until July 20 for allegedly threatening individuals with a gun. Puja Khedkar’s father, Dilip Khedkar, a retired government official, is also under investigation for alleged disproportionate assets.

The Paud police have charged the Khedkars and five others under sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including section 323 for dishonest or fraudulent removal or concealment of property, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act.

In light of these developments, the government has suspended Puja Khedkar’s ‘district training program.’ She was transferred to Washim as a supernumerary assistant collector from Pune but has now been recalled to the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie for “necessary action.” The official letter instructed her to return to the academy by July 23, 2024.
