Gyanvapi Case: Hindu Petition Seeks Entry Restriction to Cellar's Terrace

Uttar Pradesh: Today, the Hindu party took a significant step by filing a fresh petition at the Varanasi district court, urging for the cessation of entry onto the terrace of the ‘Vyas Ji Ka Tehkhana’ within the Gyanvapi mosque complex’s southern precincts. The rationale behind this plea revolves around safety concerns, emphasizing the age of the terrace, which dates back 500 years and raises the specter of potential accidents.

The petition, spearheaded by plaintiff Ram Prasad Singh, goes beyond merely advocating for entry restrictions; it also calls for a prohibition on the offering of namaz on the terrace. Additionally, it stresses the imperative of repairing the terrace, highlighting the risk of significant mishaps occurring while devotees engage in worship activities within the confined space.

This latest development swiftly follows a recent ruling from the Allahabad High Court, which upheld the Varanasi district court’s decision issued on January 31st, granting Hindus permission to conduct pujas in the southern cellar of the complex. Notably, the plea challenging this ruling was presented by the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee and was heard by Justice Rohit Ranjan Aggarwal on Monday.

The Varanasi district court’s order not only sanctioned the performance of pujas by devotees but also mandated the district administration to facilitate the necessary arrangements for these religious rituals. Furthermore, it tasked the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust with nominating a priest to oversee these proceedings.

In response to these developments, the mosque committee has contested the Varanasi court’s decision by lodging an appeal with the Allahabad High Court, underscoring the ongoing legal and religious tensions surrounding the Gyanvapi mosque complex.
