Espionage Case: Court Extends Judicial Custody of Social Media Influencer Jyoti Malhotra

Today, On 9th June, In the espionage case, a Hisar court has extended the judicial custody of Jyoti Malhotra, a social media influencer who was arrested by Hisar Police on May 16 and earlier sent to five-day police custody.

A local court in Hisar has extended the judicial custody of social media influencer Jyoti Malhotra, with a hearing scheduled for June 23.

The 33-year-old YouTuber participated in the court session via video conference on Monday, where her custody was extended by two weeks.

Her lawyer, Kumar Mukesh, stated,

“The court has extended her judicial custody and fixed June 23 for the next hearing in this case,”

Malhotra was arrested by Hisar Police on suspicions of espionage on May 16 and was initially remanded to five days of police custody. Following this, the court extended her custody for an additional four days at the police’s request for further interrogation. On May 26, she was placed in judicial custody for 14 days.

Originating from Hisar, Malhotra runs a YouTube channel titled “Travel with JO.” She was apprehended in the New Aggarsain Extension area and charged under the Official Secrets Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The Hisar Police indicated that, while no evidence had surfaced to suggest Malhotra had access to military or defense-related information, she was reportedly in contact with individuals believed to be Pakistani Intelligence Operatives.

Police sources revealed she had been in communication with Ehsan-ur-Rahim, also known as Danish, an employee at the Pakistani High Commission, since November 2023. Denmark was expelled from India on May 13 for alleged espionage activities.

Authorities have claimed that Pakistani intelligence operatives were attempting to recruit Malhotra as an asset.

Additionally, Punjab Police recently reported that Punjab-based YouTuber Jasbir Singh, arrested on espionage charges on June 4, had close ties with Malhotra.

Singh, connected to a Pakistani intelligence operative, was in contact with a high commission official who had been expelled from New Delhi for espionage and had met with Pakistan Army officials during his visits to the country.

Following Malhotra’s arrest, Singh reportedly tried to eliminate any evidence of his communications with these operatives to avoid detection, according to Punjab Police.
