NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Wednesday reserved its order on a petition filed by jailed Jammu and Kashmir MP Engineer Rashid, who has sought interim bail or custody parole to participate in the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament, beginning December 1.
The plea was filed through advocate Vikhyat Oberoi before Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma. Rashid, whose full name is Sheikh Abdul Rashid, argued that as an elected Member of Parliament, he is constitutionally obligated to attend parliamentary proceedings and fulfill his public duties.
The court conducted the hearing in camera, and the order is expected to be pronounced on Thursday. On November 21, the investigative agency had sought time to respond to the application and requested an adjournment.
Earlier Relief Granted
This is not the first time Rashid has sought permission to attend Parliament. The court had previously granted him custody parole from July 24 to August 4 during the Monsoon Session. He was also granted interim bail to campaign in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections earlier this year.
Engineer Rashid secured a major electoral win in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, defeating former J-K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the Baramulla constituency. His victory drew national attention amid ongoing political developments in the region.
