NEW DELHI: Today(on 6th August), The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the land-for-jobs scam by filing a supplementary charge sheet against former railway minister Lalu Prasad, his son Tejashwi Yadav, and eight others.

The supplementary charge sheet was submitted before Special Judge Vishal Gogne, who has scheduled the matter for further consideration on August 13. This move by the ED is based on the foundation laid by an FIR lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which initially brought the alleged corruption activities to light.
The case revolves around the alleged appointments made in the Group-D category within the West Central Zone of the railways, specifically in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. These appointments were reportedly made during Lalu Prasad’s tenure as the railway minister from 2004 to 2009. According to the ED, these jobs were awarded in exchange for land parcels that were either gifted or transferred to the family members or associates of Lalu Prasad, the supremo of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The Enforcement Directorate’s investigation has uncovered that the land-for-jobs scheme involved significant irregularities and corrupt practices. The beneficiaries of these appointments, who were given jobs in the railways, allegedly transferred their land parcels to Lalu Prasad’s family members or close associates as a quid pro quo.
An official from the ED stated-
“The charge sheet details the complex transactions and abuse of ministerial power for personal and familial gain.”
The land-for-jobs scam has not only implicated Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav but has also ensnared other individuals connected to the alleged scheme. The supplementary charge sheet aims to provide comprehensive evidence and further substantiate the claims made in the initial FIR.
The ED’s case is built upon detailed investigations that reveal how these land parcels, acquired in exchange for jobs, were subsequently utilized. This has raised serious concerns about the integrity of public office and the extent to which personal gains were pursued at the expense of ethical conduct.
