DELHI: Today(on 5th April), The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has lodged a criminal complaint in the Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi against Amanatullah Khan, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), citing his failure to comply with the ED’s summonses in a case that has captured public attention.
The complaint was initiated due to Khan’s alleged non-compliance with multiple summonses issued by the ED, which is investigating a money laundering case. This case pertains to purported irregularities in the recruitment process of staff for the Delhi Waqf Board, with Khan being a central figure in the investigation.

The Delhi Court is scheduled to review the matter tomorrow.
BACKGROUND
In the Delhi Waqf Board money laundering case, the Rouse Avenue court has dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Amanat Ullah Khan, an AAP MLA. The case centers around the alleged purchase of a property worth Rs 36 crore in the Okhla area, supposedly under Amanat Ullah Khan’s direction. Amanat Ullah Khan had sought anticipatory bail after being summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The court had previously rejected the bail application of three other accused individuals. A chargesheet has already been filed against the accused, including Qausar Imam Siddiqui.
During the bail application proceedings, Amanat Ullah Khan was represented by senior advocate Menaka Guruswamy and advocate Rajat Bhardwaj. Guruswamy argued that the ED’s registration of the case came eight years after the CBI’s FIR and that the alleged irregularities were administrative in nature and lacked evidence of a scheduled offense.
The defense emphasized that there was no proof of undue advantage or loss to the government exchequer. However, the special judge dismissed the bail application after considering the arguments presented by the ED and the defense. The court’s detailed order is expected to provide further clarity on the decision.
