New Delhi: The Patiala House Court in Delhi deferred the order on the cancellation report filed by the Delhi Police in a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Chief and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

This case initially filed based on a complaint lodged by a minor female wrestler.

The Special (POCSO) Judge, On Monday, Chhavi Kapoor, postponed the order until July 27, 2024, and the matter will be taken up at 2 PM on that date.

The Delhi Police filed the cancellation report after the victim retracted her earlier statement. On August 1, 2023, the court reserved its order on the cancellation report after considering the response of the minor wrestler and her father. They did not oppose the cancellation report, and the minor wrestler and her father appeared before the court, stating that they were satisfied with the investigation conducted by the Delhi Police.

The Public Prosecutor, Atul Srivastava, who appeared through video conferencing, informed the media that the daughter and her father did not oppose the cancellation report filed by the Delhi Police. They appeared in response to the notice issued by the Patiala House Court on July 4, and the hearing conducted in a closed courtroom (In Camera Proceedings).

The Delhi Police filed the cancellation report on June 15 in the case, and the report contains more than 500 pages.

Separately, a charge sheet filed in the Rouse Avenue Court in a sexual harassment case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar. The Rouse Avenue Court ordered the framing of charges against both Singh and Tomar in this case.

This delay allows further scrutiny of the evidence presented and ensures that all aspects of the case, thoroughly examined before a final decision is made. It highlights the judicial system’s commitment to meticulous legal proceedings, especially in cases involving potential harm to minors. The court’s forthcoming decision will be crucial in determining the direction of this high-profile case, reflecting on the judicial handling of sensitive cases involving allegations against individuals in positions of influence.
