A Delhi court on Saturday (November 22, 2025) allowed the request of Jasir Bilal Wani, also known as Danish, who is an accused in the Red Fort blast case, to meet his lawyer at the headquarters of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA is currently investigating the serious terror incident linked to the explosion near the historic Red Fort.

The order was passed by Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna of the Patiala House Courts. This decision came just one day after the Delhi High Court refused to directly pass an order on Wani’s request.

The High Court stated that the accused had not shown any proof that the trial court had earlier rejected his plea, and therefore it could not interfere at that stage.

However, the High Court did give liberty to the accused’s counsel to approach the concerned trial court on Saturday so that his plea could be decided as per law.

Following this direction, the matter was placed before the trial court, which then allowed Wani to meet his lawyer at the NIA office. This permission is significant as it ensures that the accused gets proper legal consultation while remaining in the custody of the investigating agency.

Jasir Bilal Wani is a resident of Qazigund in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. He was arrested by the NIA on November 17 from Srinagar in connection with the Red Fort blast case.

According to the investigating agency, Wani played an important role in the conspiracy by providing technical support for carrying out the terror attack.

The NIA has also accused him of being an active co-conspirator and “working closely with Umar-Un-Nabi”, who was allegedly driving a car loaded with a bomb that exploded on November 10 near the Red Fort, creating panic and raising serious security concerns.

The NIA has so far arrested several individuals in this case as part of its ongoing investigation to uncover the full terror network behind the incident. Apart from Mr. Wani, five other accused have been taken into custody.

These include Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganai from Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather from Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Shaheen Saeed from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay from Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir, and Amir Rashid Ali, a resident of Samboora in Pampore area of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Red Fort blast case continues to remain a sensitive and closely watched matter, with the NIA actively conducting investigations to identify all those involved and ensure strict legal action against the accused.

The court’s decision to allow the accused to meet his lawyer also highlights the importance of legal rights and due process, even in cases involving serious allegations of terrorism, while the probe into the larger conspiracy remains underway.
