NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has sent a legal notice to Robert Vadra, the husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, in connection with a money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The case is related to a controversial land deal in Haryana. On Saturday, Special Judge (PC Act) Sushant Changotra, sitting at Rouse Avenue Court, said that before officially taking the case forward, he will first listen to the side of Robert Vadra and 10 other people whom the ED has proposed to name as accused.
The matter will now be heard on August 28.
The ED case revolves around a 3.5-acre plot of land that was bought in February 2008 by Vadra’s company, Skylight Hospitality, from a firm called Onkareshwar Properties for Rs 7.5 crore. According to the allegations, fake or misleading documents were used in the deal.
The ED claims that the property was quickly transferred into the name of Skylight Hospitality and then passed to Vadra within just 24 hours.

It is further alleged that at the time, the Haryana government, which was under the Congress party’s Bhupinder Singh Hooda, gave a commercial license to Vadra’s company without delay.
This license reportedly caused the land’s value to increase sharply. In September 2012, Skylight Hospitality sold the same land to real estate giant DLF for Rs 58 crore. This sale is said to have brought a huge profit, or “windfall gain,” to Vadra.
The Enforcement Directorate claims that this entire chain of transactions produced illegal money, also known as “proceeds of crime,” which Vadra and companies linked to him allegedly used to buy other assets.
The court will decide on the next steps after hearing all the parties involved in the case on the scheduled date.
