The bail was granted in connection with the alleged “land-for-jobs” money laundering case, which has attracted considerable attention due to its political ramifications.
The bail decision was delivered by Special Judge Vishal Gogne, who ruled that all the accused, including Lalu Prasad Yadav and his sons, were eligible for bail upon furnishing a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh each. The court took into account that none of the accused had been “arrested during the investigation” phase of the case.
The court appearance by the Yadav family followed an earlier summons issued by the court. This summons was the result of the court’s review of a “supplementary charge sheet” that had been filed against them. The charge sheet forms a critical part of the case and was submitted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on August 6, following an FIR that had been registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The central point of this case revolves around alleged corrupt practices in railway job appointments during the tenure of Lalu Prasad Yadav as the Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009. Specifically, the allegations focus on “Group-D railway appointments” in the West Central Zone, located in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
According to the ED’s charges, individuals who were appointed to these positions were allegedly involved in transferring land to Yadav’s family members or associates in exchange for securing these jobs.
The land-for-jobs case has added to the legal battles faced by Lalu Prasad Yadav, who has had previous brushes with the law. However, the court’s decision to grant bail on the basis that they were not arrested during the probe phase gives the Yadav family temporary relief in this ongoing legal matter.
