NEW DELHI: Today(on 8th May), A Delhi court has decided to extend the judicial custody of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia until May 21. This decision comes in light of a money laundering case related to the alleged excise scam. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja made the ruling after Sisodia was produced before the court via video conference, following the expiration of his previous judicial custody.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had taken Sisodia into custody on March 9 last year in connection with the liquor policy case. The former deputy chief minister of Delhi was initially arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged irregularities surrounding the framing and implementation of the excise policy of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). Presently, Sisodia remains in judicial custody for both cases.
The case against Sisodia revolves around the excise scam, which has raised concerns about the misuse of power and corruption within the Delhi government. The allegations suggest that irregularities were committed during the formulation and execution of the excise policy, leading to financial improprieties and potential money laundering.
In response to these allegations, the Enforcement Directorate stepped in to investigate the matter. The ED is a specialized agency tasked with combating economic offenses and money laundering. The accusations imply that irregularities occurred during the development and implementation of the excise policy, resulting in financial misconduct and potential money laundering.

Throughout the investigation, Sisodia has maintained his innocence, vehemently denying any involvement in the irregularities or money laundering activities.
In his defense, he has stated-
“I firmly believe that the truth will emerge, and I will be cleared of all accusations. These claims are unfounded and driven by political motives.”
The extension of Sisodia’s judicial custody raises questions about the evidence presented against him and the strength of the prosecution’s case. As the proceedings continue, it is essential for the court to diligently evaluate the evidence and ensure a fair trial, adhering to the principles of justice.
