Today, On 23rd August, Gandhi’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, stated that the plaintiff, Mishra, unable to appear in court due to health issues, causing a delay in the proceedings. The court scheduled the hearing for September 5. The case stems from Gandhi’s allegedly objectionable remarks made against senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the 2018 Karnataka elections.
The MP-MLA court in Sultanpur unable to proceed with the hearing of a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday, as the plaintiff, Vijay Mishra, could not attend due to health issues, according to his lawyer, Santosh Kumar Pandey.
The court now scheduled the next hearing for September 5.

Pandey stated,
“Mishra was unable to attend court today due to health issues. We submitted an application for more time to present evidence, which the court accepted, setting the next hearing for September 5. On that date, the plaintiff will need to present evidence through his lawyer,”
Gandhi’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, mentioned that plaintiff Vijay Mishra unable to attend court due to health issues, which led the court to reschedule the hearing for September 5.
The case stems from alleged objectionable remarks made by Gandhi against senior BJP leader Amit Shah during the Karnataka elections in 2018. In August 2018, Mishra, a local BJP leader and former cooperative chairman, filed a complaint, resulting in the defamation case.

Gandhi surrendered to the court on February 20, 2024, as part of the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’. He was granted bail on two personal bonds of Rs 25,000 each and was subsequently summoned multiple times to record his statement.
Due to his involvement in the Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi cited campaign commitments and couldn’t attend court, prompting the court to issue a strict order for his appearance. On July 26, Gandhi, now the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, appeared in Sultanpur court and provided his statement. The hearing originally set for August 12, but it was postponed because the MP-MLA court judge was on leave.
