Defamation Case: Court Grants Relief to Rahul Gandhi, Hearing Postponed to December 23

NEW DELHI: The defamation case involving Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi saw another delay on Friday after his counsel sought additional time before the MP-MLA court. The next hearing has now been scheduled for December 23, pushing forward the cross-examination of a key witness.

Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, informed the court that witness Ramchandra Dubey, who was slated for cross-examination on Friday, could not be examined as planned. Shukla requested extra time, prompting the court to postpone proceedings.

The cross-examination will now take place on December 23. A previous round of questioning of the same witness was conducted on Tuesday.

Background of the Defamation Case

This defamation case dates back to 2018, when local BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi. The complaint alleged that Gandhi made derogatory remarks about the then BJP president, now Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during the Karnataka Assembly election campaign.

The trial has continued for five years, witnessing multiple delays and developments.

Developments in the Case

The case continues to draw political and public attention as it involves one of India’s most prominent political figures and revolves around statements made during a heated election campaign.
