DELHI: Today(on 3rd September), the Rouse Avenue court has issued summons to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after taking cognizance of the supplementary charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The case revolves around allegations of corruption linked to the Delhi government’s controversial liquor policy.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for September 11, when documents pertinent to the case will be supplied.
The CBI’s supplementary charge sheet not only names Arvind Kejriwal but also implicates several other individuals, including Durgesh Pathak, Vinod Chauhan, Ashish Mathur, and Sarath Reddy. The accusations against them have intensified the already complex legal battle, with the CBI moving forward in its investigation into the alleged corruption scandal.
On August 23, the CBI informed the court that it had received the necessary permissions to prosecute Chief Minister Kejriwal. This approval marks a critical point in the ongoing investigation, paving the way for further legal action against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader.
The legal proceedings in this high-profile case began on July 10 when the court took cognizance of the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) chargesheet, which also implicated Kejriwal along with his party, the AAP. This marked the start of a series of legal battles that have since embroiled the Delhi Chief Minister in a complex web of allegations and court proceedings. To date, a total of 18 individuals have been arrested in connection with this case, highlighting its broad scope and the serious nature of the charges involved.

In the latest development, Kejriwal’s initial judicial custody, which was set to expire on August 27, was extended by the court until September 3. This extension was granted during a hearing focused on the corruption allegations stemming from the excise policy. The court’s decision to prolong his custody indicates the seriousness with which these allegations are being treated and suggests that the investigation is still far from over.
Previously, the Delhi Chief Minister had appeared in court via video conference after his initial period of judicial custody expired. His legal troubles began with his arrest by the ED on March 17, following extensive questioning. During this period, Kejriwal was subjected to intense scrutiny as investigators sought to unravel the details of the alleged corruption linked to the liquor policy.
After his arrest, Kejriwal was granted interim bail by the top court on May 10. This temporary relief lasted until June 1, offering the Chief Minister a brief respite from his legal challenges. However, on June 2, Kejriwal surrendered, leading to his subsequent arrest by the CBI on June 26.
